Ben Tulett: “This is more than we could hope for”

April 22 nd 2026 - 17:49

Ben Tulett (Visma-Lease a Bike) finished 3rd in the 2026 edition of La Flèche Wallonne.

“We weren’t sure I was even going to start the race today, as things hadn’t gone smoothly following my crash in the Tour of the Basque Country and I had to spend some time off the bike and miss the Amstel Gold Race. I can still feel the crash in my body, but it hasn’t affected my performance today. We were not optimistic ahead of this race, so this podium result is more than we could hope for. I wouldn’t say it was a miracle, because we still believed everything was possible, but all in all we can all be happy and satisfied.”

“This podium marks a big moment in my career. It means a lot to stand on the podium in such a big classic. It has been very special and I’m pretty thankful to my teammates. This performance will give us some confidence going into Liège-Bastogne-Liège next Sunday.”

“Losing Matteo Jorgenson ahead of this Ardennes classics has been a big setback for us. The original plan was for him to be the leader here, so to see him crashing out in the Amstel Gold Race wasn’t great. We felt quite down on Sunday night, but this morning we were already motivated and hoping to win today. Thankfully, Matteo is doing better already - he already had surgery and is on his way back.”
