Mikel Landa (Bahrain Victorious): “Super happy with this result”

I didn’t have a plan, I just tried to keep a good position within the bunch. I’m super happy with this result. It gives me a lot of confidence. I didn’t feel well after the Tour of Basque Country, as I fell ill and it was a bit difficult to recover from all the efforts. Now I’m looking at Liège confidently. With Remco there, Pogacar and him might look at each other. We can use that to our advantage and have an option to surprise.

It’s better for me if the race breaks open before, but today it was impossible for this to happen because there was a strong team controlling from the beginning. UAE knew it was good for them if Pogacar arrived to the bottom of the climb with the rest of the bunch and played his chances on an uphill sprint.

The Mur de Huy looks like a short climb, but it’s actually a very long effort for us. Over those 1,3 kilometres you have many moments on which you feel like stopping. You need to be patient and keep pushing.
