Marc Hirschi: “It was all about the legs”

September 30 th 2020 - 17:37

It went perfect for us. I’m very proud of how my team rode today, doing a great job at the front of the bunch. The pace really sped up on the final laps. In the Mur de Huy, it was all about the legs. The Mur de Huy is super hard and super steep, so I had to wait and be patient in order not to go too early. I think this victory has been a lot about being strong on the head to get through the pain.

I didn’t feel super today. To be honest, I have never felt super strong on any race I’ve won before, and I actually felt a bit bad in the first kilometres today. But then I had the motivation to do well and I put myself on the position I wanted to be at the bottom of the final climb. I was lucky today I had the legs, but I also made no mistakes and my team pulled out a great performance to deliver this victory.

I want to enjoy today’s victory. Whatever comes, it is a bonus… But I definitely want to profit my current shape as much as possible. I will take it easy the next couple of days, and of course I look forward to Sunday’s Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
